EEAA is partnering with Legacy, Inc. and ALAPARC to provide several environmental education workshops around the state of Alabama focused on reptiles and amphibians. We mentioned this workshop series in the last newsletter but now the first one has been completed. The first Hooray for Herps workshop was held at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center in Andalusia, Alabama on Saturday, March 13th.  But don't worry, there are several more coming up the rest of the year at various locations across the state, and the next couple have been scheduled for central Alabama and the Mobile area.

What? 2011 EEAA Conference

When? April 14 – 16, 2011

Where? “One of the finest field facilities of its type in the nation”, the Dixon Center, near Andalusia, AL, offers comfortable, efficient classroom and living accommodations and a diverse 5,300 acre “working forest” for the benefit of students and visitors alike.

Why? Keynote Speaker Janisse Ray (award-winning author of Ecology of a Cracker Childhood) will present on place-based education, nature journalling and much more. Plus, fabulous fieldtrips, concurrent sessions with scientists and fun, fun, fun!

EEAA is now accepting program proposals for our 2011 annual conference. The conference will be held April 14-16, 2011 at Solon Dixon Center. The theme is: "Learning Among the Longleafs: Helping EE Grow."

We are looking for hands-on sessions that will help improve environmental education in Alabama. From current research to new teaching strategies to information about Alabama natural history, attendees want to know what you are up to! Why not share your expertise with others?

Recently EEAA board members sat down with Dr. Joe Morton and other AL State Department of Education (SDE) staff to discuss the development of a state-wide environmental literacy plan. We are pleased to say that the SDE is receptive to this plan and ready to work with EEAA to make it happen!
