Alabama's In-Service Education Centers were established by the Alabama legislature in 1984-85. The purpose of the centers is to provide professional development to the K-12 educators within each centers' geographic region. They are funded annually by the State Department of Education.

EEAA's Board of Directors is also dividied along the same geographic lines as the Alabama In-Service Center. Each region of the state is represented by at least one person on EEAA's Board of Directors.
